You have some of this backwards. If you gain power you'll fear nothing. But with that comes control, of yourself as much as the world around you. And what value does it have, anyway? What good does it do you? Once all your wishes come true, what happens then? What do you need all that power for then?

No, fuck that shit. I'd rather gain power for the sake of doing good for others. There's no benefit to twirling your mustache and cackling evilly and bringing harm to others. But if I can help people, maybe I can leave the world better than I found it.
