the rangers+coastals DLC on steam is sitting at 550 reviews (mostly negative) so it's not like everyone bought it from the store with merits, there might also be people who bought the battlegroups with the other premium in-game currency.
for a $15 DLC you get:
>2 battlegroups
>a couple of skins that were already in the shop (not even whole sets)
>one company for the awful Italian campaign
Utter dogshit value for a DLC, but at least you can argue that if you play the game regularly you can grind for content.
So imagine they release this in February alongside a free weekend event: new players tune in, get their shit stomped by an OP and/or bugged battlegroup and then notice both the mobilegame-tier shop AND the OP DLCs on the steam store. And the newest DLC is either 30 bucks or 40 because they add a brown shirt for your pios,
They can get a cash injection from the regulars but paywalling battlegroups will destroy their chances to onboard new players.
