And unlike in real life it's generally boring as fuck and not even worth your while since in the endgame a few minutes of questing will usually reward you with several ancient artefacts and enchanted items which, if you need the cash, can be liquidated for roughly the cost of buying Venice.

Economies in video games generally suck and its more interesting to have the very best things in the game be obtainable by questing rather than just exploiting the game for three hours, a la Morrowind's alchemy system, and then becoming rich enough to just buy your way to the endgame.
