This is wrong. More processing power reduces the amount of complexity in the work itself. That is, more computing resources INCREASES the threashold for complexity because it REDUCES the necessity of pure optimization. The complexity did increase, with graphics like I said, but they mostly brute forced it and today you waste a lot of resources for marginal graphical improvements.

In general it's lack of tools, lack of staff, and meeting other peripheral expectations. Stuff like Star Citizen being the exception, where games like Elysian Shadows should have been finished a decade ago in RPG Maker. The point about Elysian Shadows is even more pertinent in understanding this problem you're misunderstanding and conflating with game design complexity. Because Elysian Shadows never had a complex game design, nor were the graphics or other systems revolutionary, but it was without direction, and the tools were cumbersome despite being the primary dev focus. Devs can find stuff to toil away at for decades and it has little to do with the game design. Duke Nukem Forever likewise took too long because it went through multiple bad starts and revisions, not because it tried to give a truly complex and immersive gameplay experience.

No, what I have in my head is an understanding of reality. Something you seem to lack, and it's telling by the way you're putting words in my mouth when all I'm doing is not ignoring the role of publishers and the business of making games. The game market likewise ballooned in the 00s, but the amount of "classic" RPG players did not increase proportionally.
