Even outside the small games using HTML5 or rpgmaker, it's all unity engine ram cancer.
Almost no one develops anymore their own game engine.
Most of the small games are created by people with almost no programming experience. Meaning they're going to just use the preset and basic functions given to them by the default engine, instead of trying original ideas which would require coding from scraps.

It's as if the limitations of game development flipped,
before there were hardware limitations which demanded creative ways to code stuff in minimalistic ways to save processing resources, some ideas were limited by the hardware not being good enough to make them real
while now there are little hardware limitations, game development itself has become more mainstream with all the easy to use development engines, but it's those same widely used game engines which are limiting the scope of the realized ideas now
