Fall of 2001. I had to wait a while until the scalpers quit hoarding them. Where I lived the average scalper price for one was $2,000. And the fuckers held that price until Sony itself put enough on the market to end their ability to hoard them all.

My pop surprising me with a PS2 out of the clear blue nowhere after the scalper fenzy had passed. It wasn't even my birthday or anything. I didn't expect it at all. He just surprised me with it knowing I wanted one. I lost him last December 4 days before Christmas, and little moments like that are all I think about these days.
