But this is just wrong. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was the best selling 3rd party game on GameCube. If it had been Xbox exclusive, it would’ve been merely a footnote.

I think it’s the opposite of what you’re saying. Nintendo’s audience clearly had a liking for Sega’s games. Bringing over the missing titles like Shenmue or Yakuza to GameCube could have filled gaps in the console’s library for more mature games. Virtua Fighter would have stood out more too on a system with less fighting games compared to PS2. People would see the Sega logo on these boxes and be excited to try them, they’d also get more attention on Nintendo magazines and internet forums.

Only briefly. By the time the 7th gen rolled around they’d be demanding Sega make more games for the dudebro audience, or Kinect shovelware. Then if they were still with M$ today, they’d be censoring every Sega game.
