Yeah, there's been a big shift in how people take things over the last decade or so. When I said 2013 or 2014, I was thinking of those shifts we saw in 2015 or 2016. A lot of the videos and reactions to dustborn are just like you'd see on youtube back then with a few jokes before all of those people sold out and that scene turned into video essayists who do 8 and a half hour livestreams with their discord crew.
Even that 2013-2014 era is still different to say 2007-2012 internet discussion and humour surrounding things. Meme culture and reactions were different. Then to use the example from earlier of humour shows from the 70's to 00's surrounding current affairs and the like, they could poke fun at themselves too.

Here, off the top of my head. You could watch 5 episodes of "Charlie Brooker's X (insert TV, news, weekly, yearly etc) wipe" and see some piece of self aware satire, sarcasm or humour, without even needing to go so far as self deprecation.

Ever tried to talk to those cunts? I once went into a store to get help with an account issue, they spent 30+ minutes on the phone being transferred from department to department until finally they said they need to send in a request for it. That's at least 5 or so people employed in nothing, bullshit jobs because of poor corporate structuring & frontline deployment.
If it were me: I'd have lost the will to go on. 15 years is a long time.
