They definitely don't. Their goal isn't to sell Decks so much as to push SteamOS and spur competition. They want everyone else to make the hardware for them so they don't have to bother with it while still raking in money from everyone using those devices to buy from Steam.

Luckily damn near everything just works anyway. But yeah the verification system definitely needs to be better and more informative. 85% of games on Steam work without any issue, the other 14% might need to use a controller config or switch to ProtonGE, and the remaining 1% might have an actual problem. Valve should outsource all this to the community so they can determine more accurate and informative verified statuses en masse.
