It’s because those elements weren’t bad to begin with, they were just implemented uninterestingly in other games.
Like the cover shooting in DXHR was common for the time but as a stealth game and a shooter hybrid it was fun and complimented the experience, rather than just being hacked onto something like Gears of War or Mass Effect.
Or even the bosses, the game gets a lot of criticism for this aspect but I found most of them quite fun to fight. The Directors Cut even made them more fun to fight and even added new ways to beat them without compromising a stealth play through or whatever.

The game is just so remarkably well thought out. A lot of games, even the OG DX and MD, had ambitions that they could not truly replicate or do right by. A lot of things were cut in the OG DX and MD is quite a rushed and compromised experienced in some areas, I struggle to think of one area where HR is compromised. Maybe there’s a lot I don’t know about the development of the game but I watch the dev commentary and the making of documentary and it sounded like there was painstaking levels of effort put into making the game feel as intuitive and authentic as possible.
