So far in the games this lore has been pretty consist, not once has the games specifically mentioned the Brooklyn lore, despite Miyamoto adopting it during Mario 64's release. Maybe after the Movie they will change that but I doubt it, since Mario Kart 8 just had a Yoshi's Island course referencing Baby Mario and Yoshi

This is just kind of cope. Just because something isn't referenced anymore doesn't mean it was fanfiction. Mario Kart Double Dash for example literally makes a tranny joke on the official Japanese website.
