The battery life on OLED at least is legitimately good and better than most handhelds including Switch if you play at Switch comparable settings, which for most games is:

You’re correct on one point, the problem with Deck is that like all Linux machines it’s a tinker device made for tinkerers. Yeah if you buy it and expect to get 60fps ultra on every game you’re going to be disappointed, but if you treat it as a Switch with PC games and no Nintendo handholding then the device becomes fantastic.

Well first off, 800p is the native res of the SD, so that’s hardly evidence of games not running well.
Second, I’ve never used FSR for anything other than Granblue Relink which runs fine at 30fps on Deck without it. Anecdotal I know, but even heavy games like RE4R/CP2077 run at a steady 30fps on low.
Thirdly, 30fps on a handheld is not a bad thing either. That’s what Switch plays games at too, and if you want good battery life it’s a must. It’s a necessary compromise for portability.

The Deck has a few problems but they’re mostly to do with docking. None of these PC handhelds have a good docked experience yet. Here’s holding out hope that the Deck 2 will deliver things like a official Steam controller (2) for docked use, detachable LegionGo-ish joycons, 1080p for most games in docked mode, a better and more compact docking station, and optimally one that comes with the console too like the Switch.
