I agree it's tiresome to more often than not getting the short end of the stick. With M/M romance options being typically flamboyant dandies, dubious malcontents, or simply boring. Hardly do we ever get the cool ones like Garrus from Mass Effect or Alistair from Dragon Age.

At least in Baldur's Gate 3, Astarion wasn't the only option to pick. You had Gale, Halsin, and Wyll. For me Gale stuck out the best between all of them. Halsin was neat enough for a more musclar companion. Too bad he's a lecherer.
