Not necessarily, videogame music is composed to fit specific levels or aspects of the game, so just listening to it by itself without knowing the context doesn't "hit" as well as if you were playing through its designated level. I'm pretty sure people would just call Blaze Heatnix's theme a generic heavy metal song if people didn't associate it with the level.

Same, and I still did two playthroughs with both X and Zero, but the level design was just horrendous. At least I found some level of enjoyment with X5, but X6 was just criminally bad.
