Same as DotA ratting, its a different game. Split-pushing in league is horrid because there is nothing there to actually counter it. In HotS maps are relatively small and quick to traverse while Abathur is made of paper mache and needs to blow resources to move without blowing up. If you stay safe as abby you're not actually being efficient so its a game of risk and reward. League splitpushing is/was done by people who are all extremely good at small fights or escaping so you can't just send one person up there to deal with them, you have to commit multiple people but with the map being just large enough with zero traversal mechanics makes showing up top to stop a split pusher instantly lose a fight elsewhere unlike DotA which has hard CC on items to punish solo split pushing and tp scrolls to respond around the map faster. Zz'rot was also bad because it was a mediocre efficiency item but

Abby only gets his nest at fucking 20, people would pick up zz'rot second or third item and then guarantee either a 4v5 fight or shitloads of tower damage. It was more like a nature's profit dropping treants to push a lane but the treants last even longer, don't give gold on death, you don't have TP scrolls, and the prophet himself was an actually an undying or some other bruiser hero.
League as a game is not designed to do anything but force manfights that end within 10 seconds and then result in objectives taken; it's pretending to be an action game instead of a strategy one
