The cafes and Vienesse coffee in general are tourist traps. I enjoyed Landtmann the most given its position looking across the ring-road though worth mentioning that they own other touristic cafes i.e. Mozart and so you can get the same food/ drink experience elsewhere. Cafe Central is aesthetically great on the inside, again the cafe itself if just generic cafe 101 and you'd want to book or come early really otherwise you get crowds.

Regarding St. Stephen's. You can walk into St. Stephen's, but only so far before you have to pay. There are gypsies outside of course but its nothing like Cologne. Vienna in general is nicer than people seem to say.

In that area you have a great open sandwich joint, Trzesniewski, which is cheap and highly recommended (likewise you can find it at the airport). There's also a great Hungarian restaurant or so I've read, Ilona Stuberl. Vienna Sausage has some quality 'dog if you're into that.

In terms of museums and things to do - Schonbrunn didn't impress me but I've seen a fair few palaces. Imo the Hoffburg area is more interesting if you're into Habsburg history, but its also quite claustrophobic. Prater is a decent theme park and worth visiting if you're a fan of The Third Man (do watch if you haven't already), the rides are kinda rip-off prices though. Honestly the whole ring-road area around central central Vienna is really cool from an architectural point of view.

One thing that should be mentioned is that the airport to the city is around 45min, and I do feel transport from the central part to the southern area (where you'll see Schonbrunn) is deceptively far, though that could just be me. Also worth mentioning that Bratislava is extremely close to Vienna, though I didn't border hop to see it and its best to go at your pace. I've heard people mention the Muslims and I mean there's a lot but its not inner city London or all of Paris, besides they're alright lads.

Recommend hostel in centre, possibly capsules.
