>owners were crazy to give me a chance but my main job is also prestigious so I had inherent trust
>explained in layman's terms what I could offer and learned more about their org
>gentleman's agreement with no contract. I chose to forfeit pay initially to avoid paperwork and liability
>started them with a password manager and yubikeys so that we could part ways at any time and they'd still have all the accounts
>proceeded to build them an entire M365 environment from literally nothing
>purchased domain on cloudflare
>deployed action1 free and wrote powershell scripts for adhoc policies for their windows home laptops
>learned and deployed cloudlfare WARP for endpoint DNS filtering
>purchased M365 Business Standard licenses
>migrated ~7 employee mailboxes from gmail personal accounts to exchange
>set up users with passwordless (Microsoft Authenticator on their personal phones)
>learned exchange, m365 licensing, some of teams, some of sharepoint, some of Entra

>then, had owners order ~10 refurbished latitude laptops

I'm now about a year in and it's been a fucking amazing learning experience, especially with soft skills and marketing myself. The craziest part is when it all clicks together and you realize that this shit isn't hard to learn, it's just hard to master. But you really have to be ready to take on the commitment of basically a second full-time job for 6mo-1yr. I would never do it again. Feel free to ask any questions
