I use hostels to socialize but I always look up the run down on Hostelworld and often cross-reference it with some other site or google reviews to check it out.

Where the fuck did you stay, this sounds like a crunch night in Bali or Manila where they just blast music hoping white people show up and dump cash at the attached bar.

Good Hostel quality markers I look for are
>Keycard/badge access
>breakfast onsite
>common area for work that isn't 5 sofas
>washer and dryer on site(yes there are hostels without this)
