The hobby is a premise, not what can be sold.
I know people who bought every single 5e release that came out and didn't read through anything past the players handbook, Monster manual and 1 adventure they ran for 2 sessions.

They just liked the feeling of buying it.

I know people with boxes and boxes of warhammer sets not even clipped from their sprus. a whole army worth of boxed minis while they play on TTS.

You don't know what you're arguing against. You're response could be boiled down to "I'm content and you are not. You are bad."

You're either knowingly feasting on the corpse of the hobby that loses distinguishing characteristics by the day (The typical game of DnD will closer and closer resemble playing BG3 multiplayer and your precious 3rd party systems will get fewer and fewer eyes) or you're burying your head in the sand and hoping that I'm wrong.

You want signs of decay. Go pitch a brand new system to your table if you have one. Tell them to read through it and make a character. If that goes down well, I can see why you're not aware of what's going on. Try the same thing in a LFG. Make a listing for a fun concept that fits an obcure system you want to play and see what type of people come knocking.
They type of people that don't even have the patience to read through your post and see it's not for 5.5e
