I guess this is a chance to talk about the shield my player had made:
>Trolls have the potential to cause a magic attack to rebound on the caster
>Player gets the idea to make a troll-hide shield
>I tell them that they'll have to peel the still-living hide off a subdued troll and cauterize it so it doesn't grow into a new troll
>They track down a mage who can use magic to properly cauterize it
>one fight and one traumatized shield-maker later, he has the shield
>I tell the player that he will occasionally have to smear the shield with a mixture of moss and buttermilk to keep it nourished
>Describe pores opening up to absorb the mixture
>Much later on, another character enchants her bow, so that when a command word is spoken, it shoots a bolt of lightning between the bow and a fired arrow
>They decide to test out the bow and the shield
>Player stands between the bow and the arrow with his shield at the ready
>Other player speaks the command word
>"Player One, give me a save"
>Passes
>"Okay, Player Two, give me a save"
>Fails, takes some damage as the lightning bolt rebounds back at her
>The players had completely forgotten about the reflect ability
>"Well, we know two things about our magic items"
