The real problem is I don't think that the writers WANT to make Bretons interesting. Anytime something could be about Bretons, it's given to another race. I remember this one book about a knight who never took off his armor because, not only was his entire life dedicated to training in the wearing of it, he was better at any given task while encumbered with it. His wife is having an affair with his armorer, meeting only during his tournament matches to avoid being caught. The book ends with the knight cutting off the head of the armorer and then giving his wife the best orgasm of her life, in the armor. What race is this story about? The Dunmer! Look at both Tiber Septim and Zurin Arctus. Their origins pre-Morrowind have them as Bretons, but after their races are changed. They don't even get to keep their faux-Euro aesthetics for themselves. The writers just see them as boring hanger-ons from uninspired D&D campaigns, but the only reason that they're like that is because they refuse to do anything with them.
