Yes, the NFL has never met an ad break it didn't like but unlike basketball football isn't a fundamentally broken sport. There's very few meaningless games, deadbeat players can actually get cut, teams almost never tank entire seasons, load management only kicks in in the final week or two, the pacing at the end of games is fantastic, and the refs are mildly corrupt but orders of magnitude below what occurs in the NBA, and there's actual strategy and variety beyond "make more 3s than the other team." Everything about the NFL is better, which is why we put up with the ads although we still fucking hate them

The NFL rides the razor's edge when it comes to being borderline unwatchable but they get away with it because they realize when shit gets pushed too far and course correct immediately. When the anthem protests put people off they shut it down. When the commercial break - kickoff -commercial break combo proved to be too much for people to tolerate and the rating dipped like 2% they walked it back. When everyone outside of KC started grumbling about the Chiefs getting favorable calls the crew in the super bowl swallowed their whistles and let Mahomes get wrecked. The NBA never adjusts. Same bullshit starfucking refball since Jordan. Same terrible end of game pacing since...I don't even know, 1965?
