With a few notable exceptions, each year has gotten better.
Hell is other people and as you get older you need to interact with them less and less.

I'm sure eventually I'll develop some debilitating painful medical condition and wish for death again, but I haven't felt the call since my early 20s.

Protip; buy the gun/pills/whatever. Counterintuitively having the way out right there lets you deal with a lot of shit because you have the option to end it at any time on your terms.
Plus if you're an annoying emotionally unstable cunt you'll actually do it and other people won't have to put up with you anymore.
