"Come now, Crow, it hasn't been that long since we last went on an adventure," you chide your bird brained friend. When all he does is cock his head to the side like a lost puppy, you sigh and stand back up. Your old bones... they do not creak, you've still a few more centuries in you yet before that sets in, but you're a spry beauty in her fifties anymore. "What are the four foundational human needs? You should remember."

"Uh, lemme think about it, boss..." Crow makes a cute face as he tries to dig up old survival lessons. "Water's the most important, and wes got plenty of that right here. Oh! And yous always needs something to eat, so food's up next. Gotta have a roof over your head too, unless yous wanna catch a yourself a cold..."

You give him another cracker for getting them right. "Good lad."

"But wha's the fourth?" Crow asks through a mouthful of magically generated biscuit. "Can' think of nothing else yous need-need, ya know, boss?"

"Oh, it's quite simple, Crow," you tell him. With a flick of your wrists, your device manifests itself as a helpful black cane for you to lean on, capped in silver. You don't need it to walk, but if you want to hunt yourself something worth eating, you'll need it. "The great sage Martin Braun codified the fourth foundation human need during the reign of the First Triumphant Emperor as 'number goes up'."

The raven named Crow stares at you with his little golden eyes. "Really, boss? That sounds made up."

Tapping him on the beak with the crow-shaped handle of your cane, you tell him that, "We can look it up when we get back to Our Northern Lady. I believe we'll find it in Braun's paper. A Reexamination of the Hierarchy of Needs in Post-Modern Contexts, if memory serves."

"Eh, sounds like a load of malarky," Crow caws. He's not wrong; Braun's peers considered him a fraud. For better or worse, modern psychology treats his works with a reverence few incestuous, perverted layabout deserve. Not unlike Lucas Freeman and his strange theories on economic collectivism. "Where we goin', anyways? Betcha ten to one that waterfall's got a cave behind it. Toss in a fishing line, then BOOM! Got all your needs covered."

You allow a mysterious smile to cross your face and quote an old proverb: "A girl cannot live on fish alone."

"What, you need the word of the Lord or somethin' like that? I gotcha covered, boss." Crow gives his best impression of clearing his throat, which comes out somewhere between a squawk, a cack, and a caw. "Ahem, hem, hem. A reading from the Book of Passions 3:11-14. You silence him before he can start quoting the bawdier texts from the book of passions with a rap to his beak. "Quiet, you."
