Board: /p/
"/p/ - Photography" is 4chan's imageboard for sharing and critiquing photos.
Go /p/ro:
• Please post images that are JPG format and ideally smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side.
• Expect to be judged harshly. Learn to deal with it.
Want:
• We come here for photos, so post yours as often as possible, even if "image unrelated" to your text.
• "Flickr/500px/Tumblr/Facebook/Portfolio" threads are for critique and networking.
• Use "Recent Photos" threads if you are shy or only want to post a couple of photos.
• Shared raw files which we can collectively edit for discussion of post-processing techniques, are encouraged.
• Use the Catalog to consolidate similar topics (photographic themes, images or technical gear threads).
Do not want:
• Go to /wsr/ or /r/ for specific Photoshop requests.
• Gear threads are discouraged, but identified as necessary. Many users simply hide these threads.
Want to learn more?
• The /p/ Wiki Post your pictures taken with cameras whose sensor needs a cleanin last thread capped

Posting some of the latest BnW photographs I took before switching to color films.
I think the ones with the awful reticulation are shot with Rollei, which I'm never buying again, the others with 400Tx, and my Minolta 370.
I've been posting threads once every three months since I started shooting films, and I feel like I'm not really getting better. I'm still trying to find something to go deeper into.
I tried using flash, dramatically underexposed, dramatically overexposed, motion blur, etc. But nothing has been like "wow that's worth continuing this way". Please react and destroy me if you want, it's always better than nothing.

What are some jobs and hobbies that benefit one's photography?
>45 MP sensor with high ISO noise performance comparable to the best 20 MP sensors
>8 stops of IBIS+IS
>supported by a system of lenses unlike the world has ever seen before and superior to every other system
>20 fps silent shutter with a huge buffer even shooting RAW+JPEG
>animal eye detect
>8K (unprecedented) video resolution for shooting clips
>four (count them) customizable command dials
>top LCD that can modify the settings of your eternal soul
>costs $5000 with kit lens, but sold out EVERYWHERE
Is this a new legend that will change everything, like the 5DII was, in its time? Or has it already started to happen?

just bought this, $1285 new, wanted to thank all fujifags here, gonna be using it with my EF lenses, maybe 16mm 2.8 later down the road. I’ve only done it twice but I really enjoyed shooting at protests. I can larp as a reporter and actually see some potential action.
Also nobody cares that you’re taking photos of them.

Help! My camera has these buttons on the back and I don't know what they are for. A Canonchad told me they are for "back button focus," but cautioned me against getting in over my head, since I can only grow a light brown peach fuzz on my chest and pubic area. I don't want to be a pleb anymore; I want to be a Chad.
Can someone help me understand this potential meme?

I'm a neet. I've been told on /b/ that I could make some money on the side through photography. The reason why I'm unemployed is very complicated, so I'm not going to get into it. I can't work any normal 9-5 jobs.
I've taken this suggestion seriously, and I've spend hours watching videos and reading about photography and composition. I'm considering getting good at model photography. It would help me with my income, and according to that anon on /b/, I'd be able to have sex with some of the women who model for me.

Damn, fuji. So close, yet so far away. When will they produce a decent camera with a decent sensor? Group f.64 were charlatans. They were art scene hucksters that gained attention bragging about using existing and emerging technology. They were in the right place at the right time is all. An astute modern day high school student with a with under a $1000 in used digital gear could recreate and one up them in a few weekends of fooling around. to /lit/'s Magazine:

What the fuck? Is this true? >35mm?

Why are photography nerds like this? Don't they understand that you can use The-One-You-Have-With-You(TM) and just take a few steps back if the shot is too tightly framed? About to pull the rug out on a EOS R5. With my upcoming $1400 stim check, I should just be able to afford it. It would be my first camera. Am I making a great decision? What kind of flash does /p/ use on her camera?

How do you weigh the pros and cons of similarly sharp lenses where one is 2-3 stops brighter but lacks IS, but the other one is 2-3 stops slower and has IS capable of compensating for 2-3 stops (in terms of shutter speed)?
For example, take the 24mm f/2.8 IS USM, which is an alternative to something like the 24mm f/1.4, which lacks IS. Which formulation of photography priorities would have you preferring one or the other?
>RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM
-pretty fast at f/2.8 and has IS, the ultimate low light lens
-$2300 is no small chunk of change
-not as much reach as the 24-105
-optical quality is best of three
-quite large and heavy
>RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
-the lightest weight of these three, but still quite weighty on the small mirrorless body
-only $1000
-has IS but only f/4
-sharp, but not as sharp as 24-70
>RF 28-70mm f/2L USM
-fast, at f/2, and remarkably sharp; like having three primes in one
-$3000 and sold out everywhere
-a literal glass hand grenade, 95mm filter threads, absolutely enormous
-large enough that I'd want to have a secondary standard zoom, for when this was too heavy/big to carry around
-lots of clout online for using such a lens
-no optical IS (R6 has IBIS, but it doesn't do as much on its own as when working in concert with a lens that has optical IS)
I have the money to buy one of these to keep on my R6 90% of the time, but I don't like the idea of owning multiple similar lenses when I'm only going to use one of them.
Okay, I appreciate the pointers I got from you guys for the text, I'm still working on it and I'm a bit drunk so I won't post what I have on that front for now.
Instead here's a crappy greentext.
Let me know if you think I should kick any pictures from the series or if there's anything else you think can be improved, edits welcome.

"When you ask someone for permission, all you will get is a posed photograph, which is worthless to me." -- John Free
Thoughts on this?
Hey /p/ I'm a retard, anyway I'm having trouble deciding if I should spend my money on a piece of gear in hopes of making my footage look better.
Without getting too much into it, my hobby is to film people fight with different weapons, not theatrical but more like a sport so no rehearsals or double takes or planning plus it happens outside so no control over the light as well.
After trying some things with the camera just on a tripod I realized that by itself it's not that interesting and some hits and exchanges can be missed because of the placement of the fighters.
One solution that I think can work is to be more dynamic with my camera which is what brings me to ask this question here, basically I got the idea of getting a gimbal from Markus Rothkranz and I'm having doubts because of everyone else's "controversial" opinion of why you DON'T need a gimbal and should get a glidecam instead.
I am still leaning towards a gimbal because I speculate that I will be able to achieve a far bigger variety of shots with a gimbal then a glidecam, top down or semi birds eye view being one of them. It does not help that the people that advocate for a glidecam all use a bog standard, cookie cutter, medium shot of a back of a typical dude bro, racism is bad faggot walking in front of a camera followed by an arc shot of him standing while trying to muster his last 3 braincels to force a deep look on his face while staring at fucking nothingness. • Theme: Water

Instagram rate thread! Have these things been banned or why isn't there one in the catalog?
Anyway, to kick off the thread, I propose we do things a little differently:
Each anon not only rates the others' profiles, but also recommends one indoor shooting idea and one for outdoor, based on the shooter's style.
Don't be a willy - If you want feedback, you need to provide 3 positives and 3 negatives about profiles previously posted. I'll follow this rule as soon as there's replies.
Bear in mind: if you use IG for anything else other than networking and having an easily accessible (albeit compressed to shit) portfolio, you're ngmi. Most of the mainstream instagram aesthetic is for vapid teens with self-image problems and McKinnon-type influencers that want to sell you their presets meant for overcooking. I'd be more than willing to be proven otherwise tho, share profiles you like as well, if you've got any. Why do I look different in my phone camera than in my house mirror? https://www.reddit.com/r/analog/comments/kzc6e6/bliss_konica_centuria_pro_400_pentax_67ii_smc/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
mf is the only thing that can capture her glowing warmth — Post smart photographic questions in this thread.
— Post stupid gear questions in /Gear/ thread.
There is 0.5% chance that your potential smart question was already posted in previous /SQT/: >>3758364 When did you realize that if you want your photography to be great you don't have to focus so much in your camera and what you're doing with it but what's in front of it? A great photograph isn't just waiting out there to be captured, you have to manufacture it. In other words, if you want to win the lottery, first you need to make the money to buy a ticket. Capturing the picture is the last step. If you could choose one to use for the rest of eternity, which would it be?? Curious to see what people been shooting during pandemic.

I thought since it is the holiday season and many people might be indoors it would be fun to post different media that are somehow /p/ related.
My pick is an 80's Taiwanese New Wave movie called The Terrorizers. It features great film camera gear and has great cinematography on top of it if you are looking for inspo. Well worth checking out.
Honorable mention: Under Fire, which is a Nick Nolte movie again from the 80's that features a lot of Nikon and Leicas. It's not the best movie but it has its moments and Ed Harris is great in it.

Lighting inspiration Thread.
Post interesting, clever, good or even strange lighting setups. What we want is to display something other than a simple 3 point studio lightin. Who the fuck thought that this was a good idea?
2021 edition
All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door.
Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders normally have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

Quick FAQS
>what’s the best camera available on a “budget”?
The blackmagic pocket cinema camera 4k
>>what’s a good beginner video camera?
Buy a canon m50
>Can I use a zoom lens for video?
Yes
>Do I need cine lenses?
No
>Do I need 4k?
No. It will make your footage look sharper if it’s in focus, and it gives you breathing room in post. But 1080p is still absolutely fine
>Can someone tell me if my video is any good?
Yes, but be prepared to receive harsh criticism. If you're going to waste 5 minutes of our time with a shitty out-of-focus montage of noth What genre of Photography should I specialize in?
>street photography
Not to keen on taking candid images of strangers, I wouldn't want that to be done to me even if the photo looks great
>model photography
this feels like a good compromise between having a human subject and not feeling like I'm invading their privacy. The barrier is I don't have any body to model for me and I don't want to be an instagram "wanna collab" reply guy
>outdoor photography
If I'm on a hike or traveling, I don't want to sully the moment by taking that "one perfect moment" but again, there's potential for some moving shots.
>architectural photography
I don't want to look like a tourist when I'm shooting buildings but depending on the buildings, it could look good.
What else can I do?
Also, where do you guys publish your photos? I'm not into social media so I'm not too interested in Instagram. Just remembered I bought a Polaroid 100 Land Camera a few years ago on a whim due to its cheap price and novel appearance. I wanted to see if it would work but never got around to getting film... plus I don't know anything about pre-digital cameras
It's got the cold slip, an instruction manual, and is in great shape on the outside at least.
Got any advice? Any tips for getting into boudoir/NSFW/risqué photography and actually making money off of it?

For me, three Soviet cameras, a Zorki-4 that needed a basic CLA, a Kiev waiting on parts from Fedka and a rare Iskra folder converted to 6x4.5 that needed a rangefinder adjustment. Any tips for B&W microcontrast? I know you can change B&W to different channels, R, G, B, and find the best, but any other tips? Picrel, guy talks about a structure tool. I cant find what that is. What other raw editing can you do to improve.
All this assuming you cant buy a better, more expensive, lens with microcontrast.

I'm designing a 3d printed hard case for my camera, I'm considering attaching the back panel with small neodymium magnets in the spots marked with red in the picture. These would be flush with the back of the camera. Will this mess up the camera somehow? Made a mistake and for the last 5 years accidentally ended up comparing and collecting gear instead of actually getting good. i can use manual mode to produce a technically good photo, but mostly I just have a bunch of really good equipment with nothing to show for it.
Pictures I really admire show up on here and in IG hashtags, but I have no concept of how to make them myself. I can't find any frames to capture IRL that are as good as the ones I appreciate online.
Also what are some formulas for taking good pics with friends?

I did my first videoshoot in december. I did the camerawork, editing and “directing”, the whole video cost nothing. I would be really glad to hear some opinions and constructive critique from you guys. I’m pretty happy how it turned out in the end but I know there’s a lot of errors - color correcting, editing...thanks.

Im looking to make some 3rd person video content for a project with some friends.
Any recommendations on what rig system to use? Im aiming to get an offset "over the shoulder" sort of set up.
Or would the best solution be to just make it out of PVC pipes?

Don't know if this is the right uh place to ask but where's the best place to buy a solid classic vhs camcorder and what should I look for. Not really looking for picture quality, just something that won't break. Should I pull the trigger on a used Nikon D4s for $1400 usd, it's well looked after and cosmetically looks virtually brand new, has had a shutter replacement at 500k and the new shutter is currently at 100k. What are the chances i'm going to regret it? Some photos from 2020, mostly 35mm, mostly on Foma film, cause it's cheap as hell.
Feedback welcome.

Sony full frame cameras have a lens mount that blocks 10% of the light. To compensate for the narrow lens mount you need a longer exposure, a larger aperture or a higher iso. Other full frame cameras don't have this problem. has going /p/ro killed photography for you?
I have come to fucking hate photography but it makes me money. I loathe to take on new jobs, and teaching first year photo classes at my local university college is crushing my soul.

I don't think I've made a thread at all this year so it's time to share some new stuff. How have y'all been enjoying your 2020? I've lurked on here a bit and saw some good photo threads, including some 4x5 ones.

But it's very old and heavy. There's times when I just can't bring it because the lighting is too low or the camera is too heavy.
For 700 to 1500 what's the best small + low light capable body i could get?
Don't say fuji pls I've been using RawTherapee since I started using RAW but it does feel a little limited. I see some anons use darktable according to their exif but the learning curve looks ridiculous. Should I just go for Lightroom and Photoshop? I'd like to get a little HDR going and that kind of thing but Rawtherapee just doesn't offer that.
I'm interested to hear what some of you use and whether you ever wonder about using paid software or moving to free software. Should I pull the trigger on a Sony Alpha a7R IV and Sigma 24-70mm ART for 2,950 GBP on the grey market?
I've been shooting with a d3200 for the past 6 years (I actually used far better equipment in school for 3 years in between that) and am looking to upgrade.
I really want to get into shooting some video too, so this seems like a camera that excels in photography but is also very competent in video.
Anything to worry about when it comes to grey market? (panamoz)
Also I plan to insure it, found decent insurance at around £120 a year that'll cover my camera, lenses, accessories, phone, laptop for theft / loss / accidental damage.
Any chance I'll regret getting it? Should I consider anything else?

Hello!
I hope this is the right place to post this, but I have an issue and thought maybe someone doing photography may know better than I do
I really want to make a puzzle with my favourite movie, a 2000 piece puzzle
I would be okay with a lower resolution, but, if it is possible - maybe someone knows how to make this image to better qoality and if it even is possible?
I'm sorry, I'm not good with stuff like this, I just really want to start a tradition for myself where I just collect puzzles with my favourite movies
Thank you :)

Do you think one day in the future, people will recreationally take space /p/hotography? Like consumers can launch or pay for access to a camera system in space and have like Hubble telescope level access to photography in space?
Will there be thots on instagram taking shots of Rigel-7 and throwing a dumb glossy filter on it for their profile? Is this a likely route of events? Novice here, I've gotten through a few rolls of film now so I'm just going to dump most of what's been developed so far, not counting a few duplicates or actually illegible shots. Brace for botched focus, poor composition, etc etc. Feel free to give constructive criticism, or to just talk shit.
All of the following are shot on my Bronica ETR-C with Ektar 100. No editing's been done yet, I'm an even bigger newfag when it comes to image editing.

New to scanning w/ an Epson V500. What are the best processes/software/recipes/vscos/ for this? Anything else I should know? Did I buy a piece of shit? Just wanna shoot film, man.. I have a bunch of travel snapshits is it worth putting up on a stock photo site and hoping someone is willing to pay for it? >"I own a few different cameras...but my Fuji is by far the most FUN to shoot"
Why do so many people seem to say this, or have some sort of similar sentiment?
What makes a Fuji more "fun" Went snowshoeing this afternoon, took a few shots, liked some, tried to not overcook them.
I'll dump a few, please share some of your snow shots.

Got a film scan with a terrible light leak, gave editing it a go and looking for opinions, its quite difficult not to end up oversaturating it if I want to bring some of its colours out.
This is about as good as I can get, any advice?

I really love fujifilm and im a beginner photographer looking for a camera. I mainly do landscape, street and portrait photography, no video. Whats the best bang for buck fujifilm I can get? budget is 1200-1300 usd >starting a digishit thread with a 2.8MB png
all noisy blown out frayed shit welcome I'm currently learning about composition, and a lot of this stuff seems pseudoscientific. Is there any proof that the golden ratio being present somewhere in a picture actually has a psychological effect? I just sold a gun from my collection and I'm looking at a cool $1300 to spend. I shoot portraits casually (meaning I'm paid once in a while). I'm looking to get more serious about portraiture and take it to the next level, but I also love shooting urban/rural decay and occasionally street bullshit.
My current loadout is:
T7i
Canon 50mm 1.4
Sigma 24-70mm 2.8
Canon 10-18mm 4.5-5.6 (barely ever used)
Should I shoot for a better body, considering mine is dogshit, or splurge on a new lens? I have my eye on the Sigma 85mm (or 35mm) 1.4, but I cannot decide. What would you do in my position? Realistically, what would one use these for? Has any of you used them before or are they just an abomination from eBay? What camera do I need if want to record my pet running and playing around at a maximum 10 ft away? Let's get a laptop/mobile work station/desktop thread going
>What do you use
>What are you planning on getting
>How well does your machine handle heavy editing loads
>Do you nut on the screen
Rn I'm planning on getting an Asus g15 zephyrus bc it has great specs a 100% srgb rating and decent price
>Hopefully the screen is weather sealed Post the best picture you've ever taken. Yes, you have to pick only one! I expect to see some real magic here!
Bros, I desperately need advice. I'm not /p/ and I need basic advice because I'm a complete n00b.
So I borrowed my dad's camera and the lens somehow fell off while I was using it. couldnt have fallen more than 4 feet, but the drop caused the zoom to be completely stuck. I even put a lot of pressure into it and the zoom just won't budge at all.
I'm going to drive 40 minutes into LA today to see a camera repair shop and I want to make sure I dont get scammed. I already got tricked into paying $45 for the guy to "repair" the cracked filter and replace it with a shitty basic filter because I didn't realize you could just screw it off until afterwards. I would very much like to get the zoom repaired so I can return the camera with my dad being none the wiser and so I can avoid paying $500+ for a new lens.
It's the Nikon 28-70mm f/2.8.
I'm wondering if someone knows how much a repair like this would typically cost. Is it even worth getting a repair like this, or are they going to end up charging me more than it's worth? Worried I will let them overcharge me if I don't go into it knowing what price to expect. Also, would it be normal for them to charge me if they take a look at the lens but aren't able to fix it?
How come they can make $200 million a year but can't hire decent photographers?

i want to buy my first camera. this is a hobby which im planning to continue for a long time so i wanted something that's not complete bullshit and will offer me a painless start into a hobby at least once in my life. after researching about photography for 2 days i got my eyes on a used canon 700D with stock lens and about 20,000 shuttercounts for approximately 250eu / 300usd. my question is am i making a reasonable deal ? is it worth investing more for a newer model ? Why don't more people get into photo manipulation? Red pill me on why I'm one in a sea of so few.
Post your manipulations if you do them too, I wana check em out! (Pic is one of my many)

Portrait mode looks like fucking dog shit. Why the fuck does anyone use stupid-ass garbage-ass fucking-ass feature?
Let's take your perfectly acceptable picture and arbitrarily blur certain portions beyond recognition! What a brilliant fucking idea!
The blur effect doesn't even look like real bokeh, rather like a water based print that got left in the rain. >3 Dimensional Printing Edition
