Classic street photography was based around the idea of capturing the small moments of life that happened on the streets. >Because people used to just hang out outside on the street, not in their houses
I feel like this crucial aspect of the genre, that people just existed outside in the past, has been ignored and lead to a serious warping of the genre into something entirely different. Outside has become a liminal space. It's just the thing you have to do to get from inside one building to another, it's a necessary evil as far as most people are concerned and if they could simply teleport from inside one building to another, they would. Nobody wants to be outside in street photography anymore, they have to be and this has radically shifted the subject matter from people engaging in life, to simply walking through a crosswalk or holding an umbrella. There would be a place for the genre if it responded in a sane manner to this change, showing the isolation and desolation of modern existence, but in typical fashion, it tries to make it hyper-cinematic and grandiose, it becomes a lie.

Makina 670 HelpHey /p/, I have this Makina 670 and it’s great, but recently I have been having issues with it. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door. Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged. We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses. In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

Yes, but be prepared to receive harsh criticism. And yes the roll of film is $10 but I just spent $620 getting a camera and setup.
4 rolls of film per month at $10 each is $480 per year. O yeah also my developing chemicals only last one year so need replacing each year. So thats another $100 per year in the future to.
So in summary year 1 costs $1100 year 2 costs $580 ($1680 total so far) year 3 costs $580 each. ($2260 total so far). and this just keeps on going and adding up. All just to shoot 1 roll of 36 black and white photos per week.

1. Macro is based 2. Anything lower than f/16 is useless, anything over f/8 causes diffraction (we don't care) 3. Get a flash of some kind if you're doing handheld macro, get a softbox if your lighting is too harsh (it is) 4. 1x magnification can be overkill. old thread >>4382649Nikon lens with unique renderingSo I recently swapped from Sony to Nikon for the manual focus features and better weather sealing and I was looking for a 35mm AF lens to compliment my Voigtlander glass. I initially was looking at getting the Nikon 35mm F1.8 S but I found the images to be really flat and clinical in a way that was off putting. After reading some forums people were suggesting that the Nikon 35mm F1.4 had a much more interesting rendering and I was surprised to see that in addition to being faster it was also cheaper. The images had a lot more pop to them as well and I think the focus fall off looked nicer. I have not really found charts that useful for determining what lens I will like and usually I think digital's sharpness is a hindrance for many types of photography. I was considering getting the Nikon 105mm f2.5 but was hoping they would make a native Z mount one eventually. He has over 2 million subscribers and has videos will millions of views. About a year ago he decided to switch over to making feature length films, which as he has said over the years is his real dream and passion.
As a result his channel has died. He went from getting 500k+ views per video to being lucky to break 100k, with his 5 most recent videos having an average of like 43k views. Those numbers are objectively good. Having 40k people watch a movie you made is great, until you think about it. He one one of the most popular short film channels on youtube and an extremely well liked creator and the absolute best he's done is 225k views on "Anyone else but me". But more disturbingly, that one one of his first feature length movies he released, as time went on and the novelty wore off view counts have plummeted. My hunch is that those initial views were driven by his mainstream audience, who all disappeared because no one actually cares to engage with things you make if they actually require any dedication to engage with, even if you're a very popular video creator. It means that if the art you're producing doesn't conform to the short-form, digestible, hellscape then you're fucked. No one will watch it, nobody cares. It's doubly worse for photography, which is a medium normal people don't even engage with unless it's porn. The era of niche personality cults after an artist has died is over, because it's now impossible for anyone to find your work online. It's buried by the algorithm. So unless you shoot film and keep your negatives, there is no hope you'll ever be discovered posthumously.
This is why I've decided to stop making art. Not because I won't get famous, but because art matters only in proportion to it's capacity to find it's audience with which it resonates. If your art is never seen by anyone except you, then it is reduced to meaninglessness. No titleI'm trying to seriously learn about photography as art, and I'm reading, but I just don't get it Take A Sea of Steps for instance, I'm reading this primer and it says: >"Remarkable for its composition and sense of light and space, the photograph conveys the climbing up the stairs, as if analogous to ascending toward the divine serenity symbolized by the illuminated archway" >"he vertical lines of the columns rise out of the curve of the steps that seem to flow and swell like ocean waves; what Evans' called "a sea of steps." Apparently negatives don't last near as long as I thought.Sony colors are inherently unfixableSony alpha camera use extremely thick cover glass in front of their sensors.
Most high end cameras use thinner glass, ie: lumix s1r is 2.4mm, nikon d850 is 2.5mm, nikon z7 is 2.1mm. Sony cover glass is 3.1mm. The only cameras with thicker glass are fuji medium format (3.24mm) and other fujifilm cameras probably. all the shit in front of the sensor and bayer array will always scatter some light, increasing crosstalk and making it so the pixels literally never get the most correct possible color information. This gets worse and worse as the angle of the light hitting the sensor increases, contributing to dimmer and lower resolution corners.
There is scientifically nothing you can do to make sony colors look perfectly natural. The sensor never received the correct information - tonal differences and accurate hues can not be brought back with sliders and curves. This is why every snoy uses heavy handed cinematic or filmic color grading and anyone who doesnt edit their snoy photos to death suffers from dull and weird looking colors. No titleAny real estate agents here? RANT: Digital Colours, Then vs. NowHow is it that we as a photographic community seem to have gone backwards in terms of colour accuracy? I keep seeing posts about how the world 'used to be more colourful', however I've noticed a different trend evolve since the start of digital photography. If you look at older photos, maybe ten years ago or older, the editing styles seem to have changed drastically compared to how photographers edit today. Picrel is an example of what I'm talking about. Notice that the photo has been hit hard in terms of tonality, with really strong, mostly unnatural looking contrast. The colours saturation and hue seem to be mostly untouched, aside from a bit extra on the greens. Also notice a distinct lack of colour grading, which is my main complaint about modern editing styles. Cameras now, at least Canon and Nikon seem to have colours at least as good as they did ten to fifteen years ago, so what gives? Have we moved past the natural beauty of the world? Has the return of film given zoomers false nostalgia? I thought we loved digital for it's lifelike colours, or at least I do. It's hard to find modern photographers that don't colour grade, or try and do these sickening teal/magenta colour grades. Everything has to look le retro. I have a feeling people are going to look back on film simulations the way we look back on photos like picrel or Ken Rockwell's work. Every time I see a stellar composition with immaculate vibes and it makes me realize how bad I am at photography, it's always some dude using a point and shoot camera shooting jpgs?
In general it seems like there is a pattern that the more experienced someone gets with photography they gravitate towards gear with limitations and trade off control for ease of carry.OUT NOW - A street photography zinehey /p/ I recently made and sold a few copies of a zine i shot called 'OUT NOW' and was hoping I could get some feedback on it! What do you like, what do you hate, am I a total faggot, whatver.
all was shot on a fuji x-t1 and ttartisan 35mm 1.4No title>it now cost $20 to develop film only with no prints or scans AHHHHHHHHHRoll challenge threadRoll and post resulting photos
No titleRangefinder bros... we are so fucking backAmateur Photographer Questions GeneralLike how you some people are late bloomers, you may be one too in photography. Post here questions that go a step below the stupid questions thread and into amateur territory.
No titleif this was shot today it would be considered a snapshit
so if half a century passed from today and knowing everyone and their mom does street photography how would you consider what represents our current stateNo titleWhat is the /p/ consensus on L-mount?Underwater video i need helpLong story short: I build ROVs as a hobby. ( Remotely operated vehicles ). My little robots and dropcams go up to 7700ft deep in water. Ive been working pretty hard for the past 10 years and i am at the point where i have a non-profit set up, tons of media coverage, and a small budget to build a next gen subsea camera. I need help finding a camera or camera sensor than can fit in a 1.25 inch ( 30.5MM ) housing, [pictured]
SO, What is the best camera or camera sensor you can think of that will fit in this aluminum housing with an internal diameter of 1.25 inches or 30.5MM? It would be helpful if the output is terminated in a BNC/UCB/HDMI connection. the power for the camera will be fed from the boat via conductors and data will be transferred via SM fiber (converter in housing).
I am sick of not being able to buy a camera that can be deployed from personally owned boat with a rated depth of over 1000ft. I am building my own and all plans, drawings and code are being open sourced. at my day job I operate/pilot a work class ROV that requires a 300ft vessel and millions of dollars of equipment to explore up to 9000ft. My end goal is to create something that the average man can put together for under 2kUSD.
At the moment I am stuck at finding the best camera/sensor to use in this housing i have already had machined. I appreciate your expertise and autism 4chan. Thank you,I have a camera in this pocketGuess the sensor size and lens (yes, a lens is attached to it as well).
It's very nice to have a camera that fits in any pocket.this is shityou ever get to a point where pictures you take don't satisfy you anymore
Film Usinflg Cheap Gear? Can I shoot a cool looking film using an affordable APS-C camera and affordable Rokinon/Samyang and TTArtisan Lenses?I'll just leave this hereI guess the chinks will do what the brits couldn't and save us from Kodak's monopolyNo titleI took a night picture on a tripod with the Cinestill 800T, but I forgot the reciprocity failure compensation rule. I exposed for 12' f/16 ASA 400, but I forgot to do the ^1.31 which equals to around 26 seconds. What are the odds of getting an usable picture with a 12 seconds exposure?
The best camera is the one that's with you!!!No titleNot sure where to ask, so I figured /p/ could help. It's about microphotpgraphy and microscopy, so I'm hoping it's on topic enough.
Any opinions on the Swift SW380B? I plan to get one with a 5 megapixel camera that goes in the eyepiece slot, and using it connected to my laptop or phone. I've used college lab microscopes for a couple years when I got my associate's degree, and I just want something for hobbyist use at home. I have no idea what brands I used in college, but I know this one has an abbe condenser. A camera that hooks to the phone/computer would make it cool too, never had that before.
Of course I'll be getting emission oil, dyes, and some accessories separately. I thought about getting the tripod version as well so a camera can hook in without interfering with the binoculars, but it's like an extra 100 bucks that doesn't seem like a huge change in convenience. No title>Please buy my 4 hour video of 4k Steph nudesPentax MZ-7Cheap plastic film cameras from late 90's and early 2000's.
Camera technology has completely stagnated>Nikon D750, D810, and D850 all have almost the exact same image quality as modern mirrorless with less convenience - the only significant difference is slightly worse shadow recovery after ISO 400 >Photographer convenience+build quality has not meaningfully improved past the sony a7c, a7riv, and a7iv, lumix s5ii, Nikon ZF, and Canon R5 and R6II. The A7CII sucks batteries dry for a negligible AF improvement, Z6III and Z8 are half-APSC, R5II is essentially APS-C, A9III has micro four thirds DR for a negligible decrease in e-shutter distortion that never mattered to anyone because mech shutters were always fast enough >Serious, cinematic video is a solved problem - hollywood still using shit as ancient as the arriflex, stunning award winning films have been shot on the fucking lumix GH2, hugely profitable blockbusters are being shot on a relatively cheap sony FX3 that isn't much better than literally any fucking camera and was only "needed" because heavy handed special effects play better with higher quality video than the audience will ever be able to perceive >Lense manufacturing so good ttartisan samyang can outdo every classic lens ever made for <$300
>a FULL CENTURY of photography and cinema before that was mostly done on 35mm film that only resolved 12mp on shaky imprecise SLRs and dogshit optics, and the only reason to upgrade from that was more flexibility with changing lighting Why the fuck are people still buying cameras?Just a photoI just wanted to fuck up the composition and melt eyes as much as i can

/fgt/ daily reminder (courtesy by anon): one stop per decade is (generally) bullshit >negative film ages better than positive >black and white better than color >slow films better than fast >storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years >Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited >slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled. >if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process
I asked this question in /gear/, but it was buried under some other sissy slapfight. I want to either turn a used camera into a monochrome camera by removing the CFA, or find a trustworthy service that will do it for me. What would you guys suggest? No titleWhat is the point of modern medium format cameras? I get in the film days medium format was a professional camera for things like studio work. I've seen (and I would not suggest watching it because he sucks) a badflashes video where he shot the same scene on ektachrome on 35mm and 6x7 and the 6x7 was so much better, not just due to grain but tones and colors it was unreal. even 645 being basically grain free looks way better than 35mm especially if you are printing big that it makes sense for professionals to use medium format except in cases where size, weight, lens and tech considerations don't allow them to. But digital medium format is only slightly bigger than "full"frame and pentax stopped making it and idk how many fuji makes but hasselblad only makes like 10,000 cameras per year. What general and medium is digital medium format even used for that you would notice the difference? modern full frames produce 45-60mp pretty much grain/noise free images. is hasselblad just leica for camera nerds now?No titleHow do we save photography and ourselves bros? Media has gone completely schizo and there is no way one single image of literally anything, not even hardcore porn can compete with what short form video has done to 99% of people's brains. The output of our hobby is decimated because of over-stimulation and information overload.
Is there anything that can be done? Do we have to all get into video ASAP and accept that stills are dead? Do we start writing on blogs again like it was 2012 to go with our photos? Walling off into Flickr did not work as that platform is even more dead than Instagram. We have some of the most realistic, smartest autists online on 4chan, I am sure we can come up with a logical practical solution.
inbf >just shoot for yourself >just print the photos and put them on your bedroom wall who cares lol No, this is just cope. We all know it.The film aesthetic needs to die already. For decades boomers held back the evolution of photography. Now hipsters have joined them. Today modern digital cameras are still designed as if it was 1995. Billions of dollars over the past 30 years has been wasted by corporations designing digital cameras around designs of 1950s film clunkers. The world of photography should have moved on from film and its janky designs twenty five years ago. Cellphone companies certainty figured this out. Now they are eating camera companies alive. How embarrassing. Fuck retarded photographers and camera companies for not pulling their heads out of their ass. There is literally no rational reason to be using film today besides hipsters shitting themselves over bygone aesthetics. This is especially true since 99% of their shared film photos are DIGITALLY SCANNED AND UPLOADED TO THE INTERNET!!! There is certainly no reason for cameras to be be clunky monstrosities either besides boomers nostalgic for the past and retarded corporations catering to them. God damn, film and its antiquated designs still hounding photography. Film and its lingering stench need to die already.
Also pls no "muh expensive" retards. All camera backpacks are expensiveNo titlePic related is part of the reason why photography is so popular in Japan. Experienced the exact same over there. You have over an hour of the most beautiful sunset lightning you can imagine. Such a high contrast, saturated shadows. I don't know the science behind it. Maybe it's emissions or the position of the sun. No idea.No titleIs there an actual advantage to the tri elmar style lenses over normal zoom lenses or is it just a leica autism thing? does it have to do with the frame lines since you can't see through the lens so you need discreate stepped focal lengths?
Is this a good deal?Found a listing for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S2100 12.1MP for $70 it’s the cheapest and best quality I can get right now But should I save up for the superior Sony Cybershot DSCW200 12.1MP
No titleDid I genuinely fuck up buying MFT or does gear autism make you think you're always wrong? I wanted a decently compact but still powerful camera, with durable weather sealing, good low light and light astro. MFT seems to fit everything so I got it, but now reading more about how people hate it I wonder if I made a huge mistake.
