Ok, just drove it all day and in the mountains. Here's my thoughts:
>tldr; it's basically what I thought the BMW 2 series would be, but no manual transmission and better practicality. I think I'm going to buy two (one for a cheap race car, one for a daily driver).
Misc/Quirks/ergonomic issues:
>volume knob is in a weird spot
>armrest on door is about 1 inch too far forward so you can't really rest your arm on it without it either falling off or being in an awkward position (although the B pillar placement everyone mentions didn't bother me at all)
>the screen is embarrassing, but functional
Interior quality:
>Felt very BMW-esque. Better quality than my 2 series with more style.
Seats:
>Much better than my BMW
Steering wheel:
>Good (adjusts up/down, telescopes, good size)
Visibility:
>A pillars are too thick (like all modern cars), B pillars are annoying too. You have to use your mirrors, but the mirrors work great.
>Didn't have much of an issue when driving recklessly on mountain roads
Power:
>Felt similar to my stock m235i, but less tuning potential than competitors (~320hp off an ECU tune vs ~380, turbo replacement required for ~370hp and not much support beyond that vs )
Handling:
>Like BMW steering if it didn't suck. It's still EPS, so you don't really get road feedback, but it's precise. Not sure how I feel about the steering ratio, I think 12-13:1 would be a little less flighty, but it's fine once you get used to it.
>The balance is really good. Feels like driving a rotary. With the aluminum front-end and only an I4, turn-in feels like a sports car
Weight:
>It's somewhere around 3,400 - 3,600lbs depending on options I believe, and you can feel it. But even though you know it's heavy, it handles so much better than a similarly weighty BMW. It's a weird sensation, because you have to be more careful about braking and such with a heavy car like this, but it also glides through corners like a sports car. Slalom type corners are very fun and effortless.
