yes i can. i can prop it over the tailgate. i can get a bed extender. i could just open the tailgate and strap it in.

it's like the people who claim to be such truck purists forget that the tailgate goes up and down. bed extenders completely over write the need for an 8ft bed. it turns a 5.5 bed into exactly 8 feet. so you have all the practicality of an 8 ft bed but with the added bonus of a full size cab. that's an extra 3ft or so of safe dry storage. or you can put passengers in it. or fold the seats up and throw your dogs in the back. you can always find a way to put an 8ft thing in a 5.5 ft bed but you can never ever substitute an 8ft bed for backseats.
