This is partly because businesses try to outdo each other at inventing new ways to make money. The consumer class can only be nickle-and-dime'd so much before the quality of life for workers declines like it's been doing for the last few decades. It's an inherent flaw in capitalism which previously the government tried to provide some meager protection for the poor, but that era is now over.

Remember Trump is a real estate agent by trade. That's like barely one step above professional liars and politicians. Trump's entire professional life has been spent cultivating an image of being a successful businessman when in reality his business track record is horrible. The only thing Trump is really good at is being a con artist. He has always fucked over everyone in his business life who ever gave him the benefit of the doubt.
