More federal programs spending more money can save money if taxpayers have to pay private companies more for an alternative service. That's literally why we have a postal service and why we should have universal healthcare and paperless direct tax filing, but my solution to government waste specifically is to find the fucking waste and fix it. As an example, we spend a metric fuckton keeping gun sale records collected by the federal government in what amounts to a giant rat-eaten unsorted pile of physical records that people have to search by hand instead of just having a digital database.

You fix shit by replacing it with something cheaper and more efficient.
