Honestly. You can send anything anywhere just to see what it does. I've seen the expression "voltage is voltage is voltage. Sending things that make sense will be apparent once you get used to it But even then, I highly recommend sending complete bullshit to a module and see what happens.
The basic standard for pitch information is volt per octave(V/Oct). IE each octave is divided into one volt. Knowing just that lets you tailor your sequencers to not go above a certain range. Sending -5 or +5 volts is essentially nonsense data in that case for example.

You gotta read manuals sadly. Some modules are just fucking weird, more so than they look. *Most* modules in VCV have the manual under the right click menu under info. Or Ctrl+F1 as the default shortcut. A few collections put you on the company page and you have to look it up there. But yeah, read documentation. It really helps. I genuinely have no idea which notes are played when. Ions sends shit out, the quantizer turns it into a scale. Then it sounds pretty neat to me.
