Trip albums
R-9306452-1478315130-7272
Hey /mu/, probably going to trip soon with some friends and looking for some interesinging stuff to listen to. Ideally very transportative and atmospheric.

Some favorites of the group are:
Sweet Trip - Velocity Design Comfort
Candy Claws - Ceres and Calypso
OPN - Rifts and Replica
Flying Saucer Attack - S/T
Boris - Flood, Feedbacker
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Ulver - Perdition City, Shadows of the Sun

We're all experienced so don't shy from potentially intense stuff, lots of "good trip music" is definitely catering to people who are averse to the idea of an intense music experience when tripping, but that means there aren't a ton of interesting recommendations out there.

I'm not (that) racist, but I think Mexican/Hispanic whatever music is the worst fucking shit to ever happen to ears. The old stuff is at least tolerable, but almost any genre is the worst fucking thing I've ever heard in that genre. Mexican rap genuinely makes me feel ill when I hear it. Its like they have no sense of volume control. In instrumental songs the horns are always way too fucking loud to an ear piercing degree. It gives me headaches if I listen to it for too long. And I can't blame my lack of appreciation on my lack of Spanish knowledge. I listen to plenty of Japanese songs without knowing a lick of Japanese, while my Spanish is at least intermediate and I fucking hate any Spanish music.

discomfort
Zoomzoom here: Going back in the archives you can find sporadic mentions throughout the years saying Adam Demirjian shilled Discomfort on this board back in 2010. Are there any old heads who remember anything or is it bullshit? I’m curious.

Sure I missed the boat by 10 fucking years, but that hasn’t stopped me from being into TBLA. All their songs, not just from Discomfort, combine for a transcendent experience. Adam is just a special songwriter - so much emotion and sincerity but also very poetic and cryptic (not to mention an insane drummer and guitarist for being the age he was).I hope people here still love these guys I just wanna gush over them so bad

>A look at the 1954 Billboard wouldn't have given much reason to suppose the bland status quo was changing any time soon--the number ones included Perry Como's "Wanted", Kitty Kallen's "Little Things Mean A Lot", Doris Day's "Secret Love", and Jo Stafford's "Make Love To Me." All four singers were on the wrong side of 30 and all had been recording since before Pearl Harbor was attacked.

>It was in this stale morass of pop music that the unexpected happened when Bronx-based R&B group The Chords put out "Sh-Boom" on the small Cats label and saw it break into the Billboard Top 20, peaking at #16 in the last week of June. The song drew considerable animosity from many quarters, whether it was racially-motivated or simply the shock at such an unconventional (to white ears) song taking over the airwaves or both cannot be determined for sure. Parodist Stan Freberg's sense of humor failed him for once and he was mostly indignant. Freberg predicted that R&B would never be taken seriously again after a song this appalling, he said.

>It wasn't long before the tune was whitened by Mercury's Crew Cuts, a Canadian vocal quartet who covered "Sh-Boom" and gave it a more conventional brassy big band arrangement. Their cover reached #1 the last week of July and stayed there until the third week of September when it finally gave way to Rosemary Clooney's "Hey There." The gate was open for R&B of all flavors, whether it was original or dressed up white cover versions, to take the wheel on the Billboard in the following year.

>That same spring he finally won his Academy Award. He had never pretended it didn’t matter. In fact, although Mr. S was one of the least religious men I had ever met, the entire month before the Oscars he’d go down to the Good Shepherd Church in Beverly Hills and pray. He didn’t even see any girls that much, he wanted God’s help so bad. I remember the day of the Oscar show, I helped him dress in his tuxedo and a “good luck” toupee he would wear on opening nights. He also had special underpants made, a cross between a panty girdle and a jock strap. The idea was to hold down that big thing of his, so it wouldn’t show through his tuxedo pants. He wasn’t quite John Dillinger, but he was hung enough to have to take special precautions.

Siouxsie
peepshow & tinderbox
God damn are these two albums are absolutely brilliant. Some of the most well-crafted rock music ever made. They drip with excellence on every level:
>The balanced yet adventurous songwriting. I can't say enough great things about how well structured these songs are. The eclecticism always works in favor of the song, maintaining cohesion.
>Siouxsie gets to show her range as more than the ''witchy singer'', and truly feels like a continuation of the Dame archetype in music. Full of character and emotion at all times, fun to listen to because it was fun to put together, but again in service of the grander purpose of the songs
>The lyrics are stunning. Strong, intimate imagery is scattered all around, with a great eye for detail, and an ambitious outlook. Nobody else would have made something like 92° work.
>The music is connected to the English heritage in a loving and progressive (in the best sense of the term) fashion.
>Budgie's ACE level percussion on display. It cannot be overstated. His drumming is phenomenal enough, but the little embellishments here and there take it to the next level.
>Severin's menacing bass always rumbling in the background without losing its sense of groove
>Crystal clear, Thriller-level production and mixing job. Every element of the songs is so lively and in complete 'harmony' with the rest. Pretty difficult to do in the 80s.
>And so on
This band is so much more than silly outfits and Juju and John McGeoch on guitar. I've been listening to this stuff regularly for many years now, and wanted to take this occasion to not only sincerely gush about something that doesn't seem to get its due dilligence here, but to invite a celebration of plain old good music. I figured it'd be a nice change from the typical bait threads lel.

Slayer, oh Slayer, a metal monstrosity they claim, yet their musicianship's as wild as a tame. Below average, they dwell, in the pits of the riff, creatively bankrupt, their songs just a whiff. Vocals of wails, lacking true skill, their talent elusive, like a dollar bill. Their discography, oh what a mess, poor for metal standards, it's safe to confess. In the realm of metal, they barely stand, like a rusty old band in quicksand. So let us bid adieu to Slayer's plight, for in the world of metal, they dim not the light.

With rap, funk, hardcore, and falafel-joint rai seasoning their metallic stew, a new front man thinks hard about life and horror comics while under the influence of I hate to think what. "Epic," which old people will think is about the terrors of sex though it's really about the terrors of everything, and "Zombie Eaters," a jaundiced if not jealous view of a baby's world, delineate their generational chauvinism, and art-AOR keybs establish the depths of their cultural deprivation. Not as stupid as they sound--but do they sound stupid. B-
