This could have been better but it comes at the cost of what little actual main plot there was and screentime for other characters, like Birth buying time for Ankh and Eiji. Not sure what they could have cut because the issue was too little time for everything, not too much.

I disagree, but honestly the ending for OOO itself also wasn't perfect and stumbled at parts.

It isn't. I understand the point you are making but I just think it's wrong, Eiji doesn't become some callous guy by the end of the show who prioritizes his own life over others, he just values his own as an equal. Saving the kid makes sense if he had no other option.

When he sacrificed himself at the end and also in a couple of the movies that take place after I've seen where Eiji is still obsessed with him to an unhealthy degree, like the Build movie. Eiji didn't want that obsession and feeling for Ankh either, is what I am arguing.
You act like humans can't come back either, somehow King OOO did, and either way if Eiji comes back or not Ankh won't have that same obsession with him that they both had by the end since he would have time to grow and appreciate life all on it's own. There is a bird leaving the nest metaphor here too.

You can value your life and still sacrifice it for a noble cause. I don't like the double standard people have with Ankh and Eiji when they are both unhealthy about this thing and it is part of the reason I think OOO ending is a bit flawed.

The issue being Ankh then is in the position Eiji was and it isn't addressed.
