It occured to me that you were probably actually thinking of Mebius because we talked about it awhile back. Mebius aired in 2006, ten years after Tiga. It's a sequel to showa Ultra, but it's not a part of it. A brief timeline of the showa era, for reference
>1965 Ultra Q airs, Tsuburya brings kaijus to home television where they'd been mostly movies before
>1966 Ultraman airs as a followup to Q, Tsuburya adding a hero character for more marketability
>1967 Ultraseven airs, originally intended as the last Ultra show
>1970 Eiji Tsuburya dies, his son takes over
>1971 Return of Ultraman airs. Retcons Ultraman and Ultraseven into being part of the same timeline. Title does not refer to the original Ultraman character (though it was intended to), show stars an Ultra who looks nearly identical to the original and was simply called "Ultraman." His name would later be retconned into being "Ultraman Jack"
>1972 Ultraman Ace airs. It had an episode taking a potshot at Kamen Rider, which began airing the same year
>1973 Ultraman Taro airs. The first post-Mazinger Ultra, and also the first Ultra to call attacks and there's also a mecha which looks like the hover pilder and the team helmets look kinda like Kouji's helmet. Hiroya Ishimaru even voices Taro in all his appearance after the show
>1974 Ultraman Leo airs. Bombs hard and puts the franchise on ice for a few years
>1979 The Ultraman airs. An anime series. Due to having garbage subs, I didn't watch it. It's not referenced much later on anyway
>1980 Ultraman 80 airs but did poorly due to having a teacher protagonist during a juvenile delinquency crisis and toku in general not being popular. Shows obvious Star Wars influence in its SFX
>1984 Ultraman Story is released, retcons Taro's backstory for all of his later appearance. There also a compilation film released that is the first instance of the "Ultraman Jack" name being used
