Writing is not racist. Even if you think it is? Just take a white sounding pen name, Hell, David White, is the author of that book.
Is the steel mill, misogynistic? Perhaps the crane won't let women sit in the seat at its controls.

The work in that mill, was long hours, hard physical labor, and dangerous. Men got killed sometimes.
Running the crane? Was dangerous for the men on the floor.
My dad never killed anyone, but he said its stressful. You;'re working on hand signals, and you have to trust everyone knows what's going to happen when you release a 10,000 to 40,000 piece of metal.
When my dad bid on another job? They kind of "made" him stay in the crane. They said he made everyone feel as safe as they could.
