Didn't hit me as hard as Dubliners. Seems more like a preamble to Ulysses. I think the dialogue between Stephen and Lynch about the three qualities of artistic work is a statement about the aim of Ulysses.

The great autist and schizo filter. If you don't get it, you're likely low IQ, a schizophrenic in the making, or an autist whose brain is hardwired for concrete thinking and can't understand puns and metaphors and allegories at all.
I think that Joyce hate on the net is not because of Joyce's elitism - I think Ulysses is the most blue collar, down to Earth novel available - but because Joyce's wordplay, polysemic narratives and writings, and his style stumbles the Internet dwelling autist. They don't get Joyce because their concrete thinking brains don't have the ability to understand him. It's neurologically impossible for them.
