technological progress has NEVER “collapsed under its own weight.” civilizations collapse due to political instability, resource mismanagement, external invasion, or disease, none of which refute tech's continued advancement.

even after massive collapses (rome, mayan civilization, ming dynasty), knowledge persisted and was rebuilt.

the claim that "self-perpetuating systems choose short-term solutions" is a fatalistic cop-out. plenty of societies have implemented long-term solutions (e.g., crop rotation, sewage systems, renewable energy investments)

humans have NEVER lived in a fixed evolutionary environment. our entire species is defined by its ability to adapt, modify surroundings, and create tools. "hunter-gatherer = natural, industrial society = unnatural" is pure ideological fantasy. the “evolutionary environment” of early hominins was constant war for survival, starvation, and tribal violence. no one in their right mind actually wants to live in that world.
