as for forcing commie solutions upon commoners by overeducated people who think they know better than the 'revolutionary proletariat', how come is the latter's political knowledge shaped? by being exposed to certain ideas! you don't become a republican or a democrat or a whatever the fuck on your own, neither of the movements are led by down to earth people, they have think-tanks, they have the media, they are the ruling class
communist/socdem/anarchist/syndicalist etc. movements had a huge traction in the late XIXth century and in the beginning of the XXth, they weren't restricted to a masturbatory clique of intellectuals
mind you, academics broke away from stuff like marx eons ago, fisher was no socialist, his most radical position is advocating for UBI, his most popular book is about how there's no viable alternative to capitalism, although he doesn't really define it, instead deciding to reference hollywood movies and how they portray the decay of life in 'late capitalism'
