What you characterize as a "superior mindset towards warfare" could be characterized as a wasteful and reckless attitude towards one's own national resources.

Besides, you can always wage war more efficiently through more employing more brutal means. The best way to subjugate an area that is prone to insurgency is the Roman way, really -- depopulate it, enslave or forcibly conscript the men of fighting age and move them somewhere else, on the other side of the world, where they can't rabble rouse and will be seen as outsiders.
Or worse.
But just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you should. There's a cost to such philosophies -- one, you'll unnerve all of your allies and will not be seen as trustworthy. Russia is still suffering from this in current day, where their allies are as suspicious of them as their enemies. It's a different time -- warfare has developed rules with which the world has mostly agreed to abide -- conventions of civilized conduct. Beyond unnerving your allies, you'll just create enemies.

It's not like American warfare strategies are picked out of a hat. We do things the way we do them for a reason. Both ways have consequences but there will always be a lesser of two evils.
