I'm talking about a straight 1on1 match between only the land armies of britain and any other great power at their respective height. i.e. WWI, which proved how moderatly the BEF performed in comparison to France/Germany.

This isn't a pride thing, its just facts. the BA isn't aqequate because Brits are lesser people, it was just a matter of priority to focus development on naval and later air power. The same reason why its silly to bemone the current state of the military because it made sense to downsize a standing army and focus on providing other services as part of multinational defensive alliance. yes the BA is small, yes the RN is also small but British intelligence and R&D still outclass many other countries, most of whom provide the man power armed through the R&D and intelligence work of the British military.

thats just how things work now, its childish to get hooked on "the BIGGEST" or "MOST POWERFUL" superlatives because no country will ever acheive that. You can either work on what you do well and excel in that area, or try to do what the US does and be the best at everything, and end up with a logisitical nightmare creature that can only survive on insane levels of funding and often causes more issues than it solves
