No one should make threads just to make threads. That's part of why nu-/k/ sucks - we don't need a new 5.7 debate thread every day. We don't need a "why don't we have powersuits?" thread everyday. I make a thread a week on average, generally on a novel topic other anons might find interesting. Gone are the days when every topic felt fresh, because over time we've beaten many, many topics to death. There is a finite amount of relevant and interesting history, finite amounts of weapons and weapons-related topics. There are only so many variations of Spurdo or memes referencing relevant historical events or doctored photos of gun youtubers until the particular formula loses its spark. Then you have everyone from British NGOs to the Russian government engaging in social engineering which actively makes the board worse. It's a tragedy of the commons - more people not only bleed the sense of a tribe or specialness, more people also attract more garbage. There are beautiful, unpolluted chans out there that aren't in decline simply because they're ignored except by those who specifically seek them out.
