I think this is a huge issue with a lot of people on /ic/ in general if they actually make money or not.
For a lot of us there's an unhealthy focus on git gud and making it to the point it actually hampers even those goals.

Maybe some of you are familiar with it. You don't use all the tools you could because you feel like they would be a crutch and cripple your ability to draw without them. You don't try to use everything in your arsenal to create complete scenes and instead turn everything into a separate exercise like figure drawing and environmental drawing instead. Maybe you feel like you can work on that piece you actually want once you got all your fundies down.

You're not actually learning how to draw that way you're just learning how to do exercises.
There's so much to miss out on if you practice like that exclusively. The whole ideation process is neglected. A lot of things don't make as much sense out of context. You can't properly learn to render a character without putting it in an environment with it's own lighting conditions, how to draw it in perspective without it occupying an actual space.
