Has fine art always been about intellectual maturbation? Look here is a painting that requires no explanation outside of one phrase that completely changes the meaning and the rest of the story is told through the painting. A girl on a field looking towards her house. It's seemingly normal, oh she's just laying in a field enjoying the day.

From here you can mentally maturbate as much as you like, talk about the symbolism, the time period, etc. That's the difference.The painting and feelings it illicit stand by themselves and are characterstic of the time period, they aren't propped up for the sheer act of pseduointellectualism and focus on more than just the self. Your artist seems to have never matured passed the le edgy teenager everything revolves around me I'm so deep and unique phase and that will unironically prevent them from making any actually impactful art that resonates with many people. They're too focused on self.
