This is incorrect since the German army could have never shatter the Soviet army for the simple reason is that the Soviets had almost three times the population of Germany. They could cripple the Soviets by depriving them of resources which is what Hitler wanted, but again, in this instance, he listened to his generals and it cost him dearly. The Soviet center of gravity was Moscow, Petersburg and Volgograd, the three logistical lynch pins of the entire Soviet industry and infrastructure. The generals wanted to capture all three, the problem is that this was a mistake since they didn't have the necessary manpower or infrastructure to do so via the Blitzkrieg. Instead if they secured the Caucasus via Volgograd, the rest would have fallen in place eventually
