>at basically the exact same time, japan's occupation by the US ends and they have the money and labor to steal hong kong's spot as "country that makes a bunch of shit we need way cheaper than anyone else can"
>japan innovates for ~20 years, mostly in early consumer electronics and appliance tech, but things slow down dramatically as technology becomes more complex and requires more capital to R&D competently
>meanwhile gookland decides 90% of their population being poor shit-eating commies isn't making up for the fact their "century of humiliation"
>japan's economy is so out of control that even slight intervention from the US in the mid-80s causes a near-instant collapse of the entire house of cards, ruininig their labor potential for good
>gooks take over, japan is relegated to relatively niche luxury good industries while china now manufactures 90% of the same shit japan did, who themselves had manufactured 90% of the shit british hong kong did
