When Faceberg acquired Oculus they tried to poach from Valve which killed cooperation in the market between the two most prominent players.
Faceberg didn't release the CV1 on Linux like they had originally promised, so VR desktop development went basically nowhere.
Faceberg subsequently wasted all of their budget on crypto real-estate slop and failed to compete with Second Life and a VRChat, so they funded no games.
They followed this up by turning the headset market into the same shitheap as the smartphone market after they had already shit everything up with appstore garbage.
At basically every turn Facebook has retarded the progress of VR headsets and has chosen the worst way to push the medium forward.

Practically the entire drive for VR outside of physical headsets is now coming from community efforts.

It solves a massive problem actually, since it makes more complicated 3D games function on controllers. Analog sticks are garbage at camera controls and even gyro is just a bandaid.
