Why is it surprising? They already have Excel, most people already know Excel. Spreadsheets are synced in OneDrive and if you have someone that knows what they're doing with formulas and macros you can make something powerful, set it and forget it.

The problem is reverse: way too many SaaS offerings people utilize that they really don't need. Some idiots buy into Salesforce because ZOMG it's the number one CRM. Is SFDC bad? Not at all, it's great, but for a lot of SMBs it's too much, heck, any CRM at all can be overkill depending on your business model. Then they add on ERP systems to it and God knows what else and their expenses per user per month skyrockets when their business isn't that complex.

ROI can be difficult to track on systems like this, especially if you don't have any idea what your control is in the first place. It can be absolutely invaluable for some though.

Most of these people use SFDC OOTB and never get anyone trained on it anyway. But it's flashy, and it has an Opportunity (deal) tracker and we can integrate it with Tableau and we can put that on our digital signage and we can sync that to M365 and add a room scheduler to our one and only VTC room and now we look like a Fortune 500 instead of some newbie startup and oh no we ran out of investor funding somehow in less than a year.
