The "all in one" approach of the first PS3 revisions seems years ahead of the time. If you had the money to buy your first FHD flatscreen, had a PS3, played games or watched blurays there was a clear advantage.

But if you just wanted to play games online with your friends and the entertainment system features didn't matter? The Xbox 360 was the console of choice. Until very late in the lifecycle the games generally ran better on Xbox too.

My heart says PS3 but as a game console the Xbox 360 was the better choice over the whole lifecycle.
