there is no getting it sorted. back surgeries are a scam. everything to do with back healing is a scam if you actually have hereditary issues like luigi does. people will go on and on how he "broke his spine surfing" but I bet he had back issues well before his accident and they were inherited from his mother who never had an accident.

my own back pain comes rarely and usually goes quickly so most of the time I don't think about it, but when it's there it makes me feel like a cripple. I go from being a fit young man, to a grumpy vietnam vet with no family type old man. can't carry a case of beer, have to be careful tying my shoes even. in my case it's actually gotten better over the years (I don't have what luigi and his mom have) so I don't have a pessimistic outlook ruining my present. but at the worst of times it was like being stabbed every time I moved, unable to leave the bed, terrified of irritating the nerve again and again. you become your own prison guard, forcing yourself to not move, caged in a chinese fingertrap for the whole body, the pain emanating from your very core is all you can think about for hours at a time. I've broken an arm, been concussed, had a toe nail ripped out, experienced all kinds of aches in the stomach and head. back pain is by far the worst pain I've known. only an infected root of a tooth came close.

as for codemonkey jobs, I personally found mine very stressful and would never take one again. fixing customer problems with a ticket system (jira) every day felt like a small death and I had no energy to do anything after work, so the soul-sucking work was all I really experienced for months at a time. I mean, I could barely stay awake to watch TV when I got home after mere 9 hours. my health deteriorated rapidly. teeth, digestion, my back, getting gray hairs, everything started failing me because I was just miserable every day.
