hmm ive never heard of it till today... Yes i want to get into geology and basically want a machine to tell me the composition of a rock.

I know messing around with X rays is above 99% of people's paygrade but I was just wondering perhaps there were some indie type projects out there that made hobbyist type analyzers or plans to make one... I mean i could do something like buy X and Y emitter/detector from ebay, hook it up this way, program the arduino and download this and that program.. guess there is no such thing

is what lead me to believe something along those lines. I mean the X ray source for this gun is a 200 dollar tube and the detector while i don't know what specific component it is, it doesn't seem that sophisticated of a part, theres a little piece of silver to reference the signal but thats it.. The software seems very challenging though.
