That's the thing. She not a blind follower of Adam. She a true believer in what amounts to a nationalist cult. She's trauma bonded to the system and to obedience of the heirarchy, not to any one individual.

What makes Lute so compelling is that she's probably the most accurate depiction of a real life cult member who's in an administrative role. Occassionally cult members are shown in media, but it's mostly followers escaping, or it's a flamboiant leader. Realistic depictions of cult systems are rare in any media. Normally the depiction is based around spooky and openly evil stuff. Cults don't do that irl. Cults are positive, healthy, well marketed, and loving. It's only after long term emotional investment does the exploitation start.

It's like how Jim Jones was a pro-civil rights activist who demanded and worked for an end to Jim Crow, and really believed in world peace... before spiking the Flavor Aid with cyanide and convincing his multi-year followers they were going to heaven as they helped kill their children.

Lute's beyond the revealed evil stage. She's fully invested in the system and turns a blind eye to hypocracy. Adam can be an open rapist, and it would not matter, because he outranks her, and the heirarchy and the system comes before all. Adam is not perfect. The system is perfect, and everyone and everything in creation can be sacrificed to maintain it without question. As far as Lute is concerned it is the will of god and she is only the tool.

What makes her a drawn is seeing how or if she can be saved, if she wants to be, if she can be an independent person, or if maybe she is the ultimate villain, or even the broken hero in the end.
